Husband grew up coming here and brought me and our son for the first time. I loved it. The food was really good and their drinks were so fresh. Often these fusion places miss the mark for me, but not this place. The server was very kind and efficient, we will definitely be returning. Read more for more on the food...
We all ordered the #8s on the salvadorean menu. Revuelstas with beans, rice and a fried plantains. It was all wonderfully authentic and I loved that their pupusas were not super greasy or oily but not dry at all either.
I ordered a dragon fruit lemonade and was presently surprised when they brought out a freshly blended drink. (I think I've gotten to use to corporate America Starbucks)
Husband got the Salvadorean horchata which I'm not the same as Mexican horchata. I think it has pinole but idk I'm Mexican so I honestly have no idea. -

This restaurant is amazing! Not just their food is exceptional but their customer service is extraordinary. Germo (who works there) is more than nice. He made me a complimentary WONDERFUL lemonade that I have never tried something like before. He also went out of his way to open the door for me and welcome me.
I am highly satisfied and will definitely come again whenever in Pomona. -

I was able to visit Guasalmex today during my lunch. I parked in the back because the restaurant is located on a busy st. The restaurant was clean and the waiters were very nice.
I ordered 2 pupusas revueltas and they were a good size. I also preferred a Coca Cola to drink. I was only able to finish 1 pupusa and took the other one to go. The condiments for the pupusas were yummy. ( the curtido and salsa roja), this place offers a spicier salsa verde which I LOVED. I would definitely visit again! -

Ughhhhh love this place. Authentic guatemalan food and nice waiters. Made me nostalgic and happy and sad all at the same time. Their food is yummy. Their tamales are good which let me make a note these are not Mexican tamales. So if you think they're soggy it's because they are not mexican tamales lol. So if you are open then you will be able to enjoy them as much as I did. Yummyyyyy. The caldo the chuchitos and the tamales de chipilin were all so good. I keep eating even though im so full because it's just that good. Anyways 5 stars for sure! Love my experiences here!

I'll get right to it, this place has AMAZING pupusas. Probably the best I've ever had in SoCal, but definitely within the IE.
Guasalmex is an informal mixed counter service/ sit down restaurant offering Guatemalan, Salvadoran, and Mexican dishes but like I mentioned above, the real standouts here are the pupusas. It's a bit of a hole in the wall but don't let this discourage you, the interior is dressed up very respectably. The service was super friendly and accommodating as well.
NOTE: The main entrance is actually from the back side, not from the street side. There's a parking lot in the back for convenient access, but I can see people getting confused.
I want to highlight their awesome lunch special where for $9.99 you get two pupusas, a drink (soda, jamaica, horchata, or tamarindo), a third dish that has several options (1 soft taco, 2 taquitos, 1 pastelito, etc.) and also ice cream or flan for dessert. As a college student, I appreciate a good deal when I see one, but note this unfortunately isn't offered on the weekends.
Nothing we ate disappointed the rave word of mouth I had heard about this place. The tortilla of the soft taco was so fresh I actually had to let it cool, and the pupusas were exquisite, no surprise there.
All in all I can't wait to come back and introduce more people to this place. I've been in Pomona almost 4 years and I'm mad it's taken me this long to discover a good pupusa place. Oh well, Guasalmex, you have a new frequent customer.
